New Overdue Notice Policy

DATE: March 5, 2009
TO: All library patrons

FROM: Margaret Borchers, Library Director

SUBJECT: overdue notices

In these difficult economic times, I am reviewing all library procedures and policies in an effort to keep library services at their current level. Mailing overdue notices, often multiple times, is one practice that I believe can be eliminated in order to save money. Therefore, starting in April, the library will no longer mail overdue notices.

I know that this will be an inconvenience for some of our patrons so I am offering the following suggestions to help you manage your library materials:

  • Use the printed receipt that is issued when you check out your materials. Each item you take is listed with a due date. The library website and phone number is also listed.
  • Patrons may check their library record online by going to the library homepage at: www.ewml.org All you need to access your account is your library card number. Items may be renewed online by the same method.
  • Sign up for Library Elf. This free service will send you an email notice before your items become due. Sign up at www.libraryelf.com
  • You may call the library at 452-2850 and ask us to check your records at any time. We can tell you what items you have out and when they are due.
We will continue to mail bills for lost books and materials and these notices will be go out approximately four weeks after the item is due.

Thank you.
