Adult Summer Reading Guidelines

“Running” the Reading 5K: How it works….

This year, summer reading is all about making a difference in our community!  Instead of entering a road race to raise funds for a sponsor, you will read books to earn donations to your favorite Monroe social services.  It’s easy!

  • Earn a ticket for every 100 pages you read
  • Use your ticket to vote for a donation to the social service of your choice by placing it in the appropriate container at the reference desk.  You can select:
  • Monroe Food Pantry – Provides food to Monroe residents in need
  • Project Warmth – Helps pay heating bills for those who cannot afford to keep their houses warm in the winter
  • Back to School Buddies – Provides backpacks and school supplies for kids in need
  • Starting on Friday, June 17th, register at the library or online by going to our Summer Reading page. Come to the library to pick up a starter package.
  • You can register up until Tuesday, August 9th, but books you read before you register do not count so be sure to sign up as early as possible! You must come to the library yourself to pick up all tickets and prizes.
  •

Eligibility:

People aged 17 and up.

Timeline:

  • Starting on Friday, June 17th, register at the library or online by going to our Summer Reading page. Come to the library to pick up a bookmark and brochure.
  • You can register up until Tuesday, August 9th, but books you read before you register do not count so be sure to sign up as early as possible! You must come to the library yourself to pick up all tickets and prizes.
  • All summer reading must be logged in and tickets retrieved by Wednesday, August 10th at 8:00 p.m.

Logging Your Reading

All summer reading is tracked online. For each entry, indicate whether or not you have finished the book. Use the star system to rate books you finish.

Active Vistors Reward

Earn a ticket for a weekly gift card raffle every time you come to the library.   You must be participating in summer reading and have entered at least one 5K ticket to be eligible.  Raffles will be drawn weekly after closing on Friday.  If prizes are not picked up after two weeks, they will be raffled off again to allow someone else to win them.

Eligible Reading

Only books with full-text pages are eligible for entry. Photo or illustrative pages do not count. Large Print books, Audiobooks and eBooks count, but you must finish the book and check the regular print version in the library catalog for the correct number of pages before logging online. See a librarian if you need help.
